Who are these courses for?

  • You must also have the following criteria to be eligible:
    • Live or work in the West Midlands Region
    • Currently in employment and earn £30,000 or less
    • Aged 19 or over
    • Have not achieved a full level 3 qualification (A Level 3 qualification is equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or two A levels.)

What courses are available?

Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Technologies

  • Provides an introduction to core engineering principles and practical skills in a particular area, providing a foundation for further study.
  • Suitability: Ideal for those unsure of their career path, wanting to explore engineering before committing to a longer course, or preparing for an apprenticeship in a specific field.
  • Duration: 12 months day release model with face-to-face delivery at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre. There may also be some online delivery.

Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies

  • Provides broad coverage of core engineering principles and practical skills across various disciplines.
  • Suitability: Ideal for those wanting a general engineering background, entering basic technical roles, or preparing for further study in a specific area.
  • Duration: 18 months day release model with face-to-face delivery at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre. There may also be some online delivery.

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies

  • Provides in-depth specialisation in a specific field within engineering technologies (e.g., mechanical, electrical, chemical).
  • Duration: 24 months day release model with face-to-face delivery at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre. There may also be some online delivery.
  • Ideal for those:
    • Preparing for higher education (e.g., university engineering courses) or higher-level technical roles.
    • Gaining expertise in a specific engineering field for career advancement.
    • Those with a clear career path and interest in specialisation.

These qualifications have been developed to provide learners with an advanced knowledge and understanding of the practices and processes of engineering technologies. They cover knowledge, understanding and skills that have been identified in order to operate effectively in a job role within the Engineering Sector and are relevant to a wide variety of study routes.

These courses who are interested in pursuing a career in the engineering sector, including occupations and job roles such as maintenance engineer, mechanical engineer, welder and/or fabricator, and electrical and/or electronic engineer.

Level 3 NVQ in Engineering Technical Support

  • Learning on the job, trainees will gain invaluable experience within their real working environment while bringing new ideas into the business. They’ll receive one-to-one support, with the opportunity to develop new skills, all with the benefit of earning while they learn.
  • This qualification prioritises practical competence, equipping learners with invaluable hands-on skills and industry-recognised expertise through a blend of on-the-job training and project-based assessments.
  • Suitability: Ideal for those who prefer hands-on learning, want to gain practical skills for employment, or work better in a real-world setting.
  • On-site at your workplace with some online learning
  • 12 months duration

Course start dates in February, March and April 2024
